Costar Or Support

Roddy McDowell possibly missed an Oscar by misplacement.

For Cleopatra, he was listed as a leading or costarring actor instead of a supporting actor.  As it was printed that way, strict rules couldn't change it, so he wasn't considered for BSA and trounced for BA.

Rules are rules as printed anyway huh?

Stars, costars, supporting actors all play an important part in show structure.  Sometimes there is imbalance.

I'll leave you to find instances.

There is sometimes a 'star' who doesn't like 'competition'.  He/she thinks supporting actors are subservient and can be controlled.  The light is on the star alone.

Well, it doesn't always swing that way.  Depends on a lot of factors, including talent and presence or opportunity to show some stuff.

Puffed up feathers can be plucked.

One can see this pattern beyond showbiz, into many facets of life.

My advice:  If possible avoid the star and do your own thing.  Give each a chance to shine.
