I'm almost speechless. Quite a feat for me har har. The socalled 'series finale' of Jericho lived up to its reputation as a thought provoking, inspiring multifaceted show. BTW, get the DVD of the first season and watch the second at cbs.com. About dropped my socks in the first few minutes.
Gray Anderson, the Mayor of Jericho, is at a 'constitutional convention' for the Allied States of America. He's chatting in an elevator with another delegate. The delegate says there was a 20 minute orientation, an hour round table discussion, a two hour lunch, a 1000 member 'town hall' meeting and boom, no more Second Amendment. Gray says that it would be easier to 'pacify' the country if the people can't shoot back'. WOW! This has NEVER been stated on any other show so bluntly. Let me tell you about Jericho.
Jericho is a small town in Kansas. Suddenly, the people there witness a nuclear explosion from the area of Denver, Colorado. It turns out that over 20 American cities were taken out simultaneously (Indianapolis included, hmmm). The story that follows is a blueprint for what could happen and what has been thought up both by those in gov and the storytellers here. Again, as with all my blogs, please see this for yourself and spread the word. Interestingly cbs.com as well as wikipedia are good starting points.
What happens to the people in this small town is the crux of the story. It is about America. Call it a microcosm if you will. It is about what people in this country could do if faced with such crisis. It's about devotion, loyalty, patriotism. It's about deceit, disloyalty, treason.
This show has sparked discussion across the country. It has caused debate about what could happen and what will happen to these united States. People are examining what to do and what is the content of character that makes us American. Never have I seen fiction touch so deeply. Or is it quasi fact? What is the measure of being American? What will we do when faced with 'crisis'? Do we rely on ourselves or on the 'authorities'?
Now, I don't have a problem with some tv. There is room for all kinds of entertainment and enrichment. Of course there is too much room for c***. I don't watch 'reality tv'. The exceptions are the ABC Home Improvement and America's Funniest Videos. The former is people helping people who help others. The latter is just plain poking fun at ourselves. Who doesn't need a smile with what's coming?
I intend to examine Jericho more. Particularly how the show 'flows' and specific characters and organizations.

Isn't what McAuliffe said what Jake said at the end of season 1 -smile-?
NUTS!
Civil war. The power brokers will never easily surrender control They will do whatever they can to ensure they win.
We must expose them and do the same.
We have seen the enemy and he is us.......
Humanity will survive against the 'machine'. Welcome to the revolution.
The fight for Jericho is not over and Jericho needs your help!
Carol Barbee has confirmed that CBS Paramount is trying to sell Jericho to a different network. (CBS Televison Network showed/canceled Jericho, but CBS Paramount is the company that produces Jericho.)
There are already some interested networks - Sci Fi, DirectTV, and The CW. The actors are still under contract and the sets are in storage.
There is a list of things the fans are being asked to do:

I hope when the time comes, I'll stand up and do my part in a crisis.
Watch all the episodes at www.cbs.com.
Thanks Gwen. Will do.

This is no jike. Among other things, learn Morse Code.
This whole Jericho this is WOW! Talk about setting brushfires in the minds of men!
I know guys who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. They love this show. They say that the corporations are running things. There is plenty of proof. Anything that shines the light on the robbery of our freedom should be exhalted.
There are agents and members of the armed forces who are patriots. Don't ask me who......
I Agree with your take on "Jericho". I was quite surprised that they made it to TV in the first place and weren't shut down immeadiately. After all, you can't have people being resourceful and surviving by their own initiative instead of waiting aptiently for the Gov to come and save them (shades of New Orleans). Jericho struck a chord in me that reverberates around this country in the hearts of true Patriots.
Reminds me of Hans Tobeason's 'Freedom'. It got shot down after 7 eps. 11 were made and those 4 were never seen in the US. Maybe Hans could work up a new version?
Gray makes a very important point with which I totally agree. In spite of seeming futility, we must speak out about the encroaching tyranny. If we do, we can have a clear conscience when it's time to actually stand and fight.
As a Jewess in the US, may I remind everyone that criminals are stopped by FIREARMS, not by talk? And that America wasn't won with a registered gun? That is why all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!
Wendy, you should check out L. Neil Smith's latest at JPFO. http://www.jpfo.org/smith/smith-opened-eyes.htm Also see the article within the article by Eric King.
It didn't hurt the symbolism for them to fly the "Don't Tread on Me" flag over the town hall at the end of the series. Jericho was a bit weak in the first season but it really started picking up especially toward the end.
Re the Second Amendment: It's more like 'boom', the 2A will be defended. We're doing a cr**** job. There are multi fronts. We must become more proactive.
Remember, the 2A is merely an enumeration of what cannot be taken away unless we let it.
Never rest til ATF and GCA 68 NFA 34 etal are gone. Little by little, like rust wear em away.
Seems CBS did what happened to you re your 3/30 post from last year. They made a nominal effort. Then CBS cancelled (CTASC kept the rule of no carry in your post). Both situations got the appropriate players off the hook. 'Well, we gave them a chance, but we will do what we want anyway.' JMHO
That's Friday Meeting 3/30 originally posted June 9, 2007.
How people conduct themselves re Jericho and trying to get it on again could be seen as a model for how the Rangers/Resistance could work in a real situation. How folks organize for common goals, find alternatives and genrally get out the word have value that we can learn from for the future.
Just to be clear it is James Wesley, Rawles (Patriots, Surviving the Coming Collapse, John Ross (Unintended Consequences), and Matt Bracken (Enemies Foreign and Domestic, Domestic Enemies, the Reconquista. He has a third in the works.).
